"....Ocean Club 77 is taken from a board tape, but it’s a good one, and so is this performance. Chilton had not yet developed the jaundiced view of Big Star that would douse his later performances of their material with queasy contempt. “Back Of A Car,” “In The Street” and “O My Soul” all sound committed and harder-hitting than Big Star’s own live recordings. But Chilton’s engagement with a wider history of American music is in full force here. Songs by the Beach Boys, the Ventures, Chuck Berry, Nelson Slater, and the Seeds all turn up, performed with both looseness and evident regard". The band include DB Chris Stamey.
