The original "Mirrorage" is a tranced-out sci-fi hymn. Usually, the voice of Cameron Mesirow (aka Glasser) is a waft of warm air, but on that song it was chilly and remote, and she stretched it across chasms of tingling bells and deep-space bass-pulses. The lyrics are the sound of a soul consciously isolating herself: "The self a lonely terrain with temporary lines/ How can I trust in you?" On the remix, space-disco king Hans-Peter Lindstrøm, who knows a kindred spirit when he hears one, leaves the song's basic skeleton entirely untouched. His tweaks are minor, even cosmetic: a drum that kicks just a little lower, some vocals run backwards, a few extra layers of echo slowly piling up. Lindstrøm's biggest adjustment is to stretch the song out to double its length, letting that elemental groove bend back until it creates its own world.
