Absolutely superb debut release from Paul Bennett on the new Modernista label. Across four tracks of expertly constructed retro deep house, acid and emotive techno he shares his love for raw machine music as exemplified by mid to late 80s Chicago house labels like Trax, DJ International, Dance Mania and Hotmix5. I'm especially liking Manchester-themed cuts like "51" (FAC51 - the Hacienda!) and "Royce Road To Peter Street" (the Crescents to The Gallery?). Timeless music, which totally redefined the clubbing soundtrack, revisited and rendered in glorious modern production technicolour. A homage, yes...but with enough noughties nouse to win over a whole new generation.
